Alex Markwith: Inverse
Exhibition on view May 3-30, 2023
Galleria Kajava
Vallila Library, Päijänteentie 5, 00550 Helsinki.
Inverse is a solo exhibition by Alex Markwith featuring wall-hung sculptural assemblages alongside abstract paintings on canvas. Each piece is constructed in a series of improvisational gestures via intuitive use of color and found materials. The title Inverse refers to the asymmetrical balances within the artworks, and also the mirror-nature of the subconscious, a reflection of lived experience connecting maker and viewer.

System Settings Change is a solo exhibition of paintings on canvas by Alex Markwith at Galleria K, Vantaa.
On view 7-29 January 2023.
Diverging from and building on Markwith’s signature abstract style, the paintings incorporate images such as skulls, oil barrels, computer icons, error messages, and fragments from NASA photos of outer space.
Stylistically, the works blend abstract expressionism, surrealism and street art while referencing current issues such as artificial intelligence and the global energy crisis.
